Future of Work, Why People Quit, Processes, and SXSW - The Creativ Briefing

Weekly Expertise for Smarter Marketing

Managing human potential is hard.

How can one improve, organize, and structure teams? A client and I were discussing the best way to organize in order to finish a complex, multi-step product build over the next month.

The best solution we landed on was to clearly define and assign responsibilities. Namely, who is doing what.

Who is the lead responsible for X? The team member responsible for Y? For Z?

Assigning responsibility avoids the largest obstacle that faces teams, lack of communication and accountability. Once roles are defined and the specific stakeholders know what is expected, teams can get straight to work with the knowledge of who’s doing what.

The opposite, lack of accountability and communication, is stagnation.

3 Stories Dominating Headlines

  • The Future of Work has dominated headlines this week as executives from multiple companies experiment with the limits of hybrid work. Most companies have mandated 3 days a week, others 4, while others remain totally remote. Most executives note that corporate culture and performance does require some face-to-face interaction. Look for more companies to balance sticks and perks to get people back to their commute.

  • Eli Lilly is capping the cost of insulin at $35 dollars a month. The move comes after numerous negative publicity blows like a fake tweet sinking the stock, pressure from a 2-year, bi-partisan Senate probe, and multiple stories on rising American healthcare costs. This is a 70% cut in price. Expect more pressure on healthcare providers and questions around costs.

  • Congress is threatening to ban TikTok. Gen Z and marketers may be horrified. It’s called ‘The Data Act’ and is the latest in a growing effort to disentangle the social platform’s close relationship with the Chinese government. Government posturing that could result in more limitations beyond the recently imposed hour limit for children under 18.

Stat of the Week

Why People Are Quitting Their Jobs

Speaking of the future of work, why do people leave their jobs?

The top reasons remain:

1. Lack of opportunity

2. Inadequate compensation

3. Indifferent leadership

Lack of workplace flexibility, related to the future of work topic, falls at the bottom of the list alongside the often cited mental-health requirements.

It appears what most people crave in a place of employment is future opportunity, fair compensation, leadership, and deriving meaning from their work.
